“ Lugol’s iodine was first made in 1829 by the French physician Jean Lugol. It is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, the most effective and safe medicines needed in a health system.” – Wikipedia. It is a liquid made up of two parts potassium iodide for every one part elemental iodine in water.
Iodine is an essential element that helps produce and regulate two thyroid hormones, T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine), which control metabolism and are used by most all cells and systems in the body. It’s also crucial in the development of skeletal and brain tissue, especially in a fetus. Iodine deficiency leads to a reduced production of thyroid hormones which can lead to hypothyroidism, goiter, hot or cold flashes, confusion, and a wide range of other health problems. Supplementation with a high quality form of iodine can easily bring levels back up to normal. It’s also been shown to be useful for treating and preventing hair loss, constipation, stomach infections, insomnia, and much more. There are so many health benefits, that’s it is surely one of the most important essential minerals. Natural food sources of iodine are ocean fish and shellfish, sea vegetables, lentils, kidney beans, figs, almonds, spinach, dairy, potatoes, soybeans, and oats.
Iodine is also a potent antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antiviral element. Used internally or externally, it is very effective at eliminating infections by pathogens. It is also efficient at releasing and removing halides like chlorine, fluorine, and bromine that are trapped in cells and tissue. Lack of iodine in the diet, combined with environmental exposure from public water, chemicals in products, and food additives can cause a buildup of these halides which can wreak havoc on the endocrine system and cause issues such as hormonal imbalance and neurological disorder. A slow course of slightly increasing doses of iodine can help cleanse the body of these toxins, while minimizing detoxification symptoms. Used topically it can be placed and smeared directly on skin. It will absorb and be sent via blood to all parts of the body. Apply directly to wounds for instant sterilization. Internally, dilute in water to needed specifications. Never use undiluted internally.
One of the most common uses for iodine is for water purification. In the U.S.A alone, over 7 million people suffer with symptoms from ingesting contaminated water, causing an estimated 12,000 deaths annually. A few drops of iodine mixed in with water taken from wild sources can effectively eliminate most all microbes and leave the water safe for drinking. Even very clean looking lakes, rivers, ponds, etc. are almost all infected with many unsafe microbes such as Giardia, Salmonella, and E. Coli, which can cause mild to severe gastric distress. Iodine should be always be taken with you on camping or hiking trips, or when traveling to foreign places where there is little or no access to clean drinking water.
Potassium iodide which is found in Lugols has even been used to help counter the harmful effects of radiation. It is given to people who have been subjected to nuclear fallout as part of a treatment program. It’s commonly used as a preventative measure against EMF and radiation from WiFi, cellular signals, smart meters, and other high intensity frequency sources. With all of the health benefits and the wide range of other uses for iodine, this is one product that I highly recommend everyone have in their homes. Even with regular use, one bottle will last months and it’s small enough to be easily stored or taken anywhere. J. Crow’s is the most well regulated and trusted brand I’ve found. To me its well worth spending just a bit more to get a premium quality and consistent product, over choosing other questionable sources online. For people who prefer nascent iodine, I’ve included a link to read about and purchase it as well.
Always do your research, and stick to dosage guidelines. Iodine is safe but powerful, and should be used as directed.
